According to a report from Yangcheng Evening News, only 24 new homes in Guangzhou were sold, a decline of 60 percent from the same period in 2011.

Home prices in the Guangdong capital dropped 12.7 percent to 10,257 yuan psm last week from the previous year.

Based on data from Beijing Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Beijing saw no deals for the first time in three years.

Deals in other first-tier and smaller cities were also low.

Sales dived around 79 percent and 93 percent year-on-year in Hangzhou and Wuhan, said a report by new agency Xinhua.

Qu Hongbin, co-head of Asian research at HSBC, earlier said that first-tier cities would saw up to 30 percent decline in home prices this year, while prices in lower-tier cities would drop 10 to 15 percent.

During the holiday, millions of Chinese indulged on dining and shopping instead of seeking flats.

Sales at restaurants and key retailers soared 16.2 percent from the previous year to 470 billion yuan.
