Guangzhou, China was given the hosting right of the 2013 world badminton championships, according to Badminton World Federation (BWF)’s website.
“Following the conclusion of the BWF Council in New Zealand’s Queenstown this afternoon, results for the host cities election of the 2013 and 2014 World Championships, as well as, the 2013 Sudirman Cup are now confirmed,” said the world badminton governing body on its site.
Three cities including Macau, Copenhagen and Guangzhou made bid for the 2013 world badminton championships, with the last two cities also contesting for the 2014 championship.
Hosting right of the 2014 badminton worlds went to Copenhagen, Denmark.
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the only city to bid for the 2013 Sudirman Cup as Melbourne, Australia withdrew its bid days before, will host the event.
Copenhagen has already held the badminton world championships three times.
The 2013 edition of thebadminton worlds and Sudirman Cup will be the first for Guangzhou and KL, respectively.
