The Chinese government has given concurrence to Sri Lanka to establish a new Consulate General in the Guangdong capital of Guangzhou.
On January 18, a special meeting took place in the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Beijing during which Madam Yu Hong, Vice Director General of the Consular Department of China’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, presented the formal agreement for the setting up of the Consulate General to Sri Lanka’s Ambassador Ranjith Uyangoda.
The Consulate General will facilitate the expansion of bilateral relations between China and Sri Lanka in areas of tourism, trade and economy, as well as reinforce people to people contacts between the two nations.
The government of Sri Lanka has already assigned a Foreign Service Officer to the Consul General position in Guangzhou.
